ON THIS DAY: Mikey Prout captains winning All-Ireland JFC Team [2005]

One from the archives – on this day 20 years ago:

“On Saturday July 30th, 22 year old Mikey Prout became the first player from the club, indeed the entire division, to captain a successful Cork All-Ireland Football winning team when Cork beat Meath in the Junior All-Ireland final in Portlaoise. Mikey was absolutely outstanding throughout the campaign, both as a player and as a leader, and in fact was man of the match in the close Semi final verses Sligo, where he snuffed out the Sligo dangerman in the second half. There were also to the 2 other South East players on the Cork team. Well done Mikey – a first for Shamrocks!”
