FINAL SCORE: Shamrocks 3-12, Crosshaven 3-07
Shamrocks met near neighbours Crosshaven in the U16 Division 3 Hurling League Final at Minane Bridge last Saturday evening.
In near perfect conditions for hurling, Shamrocks started very well and soon had a nice lead. Our halfback line and Centre Field were on top and provided plenty of ammunition for the forwards.
We weren’t as clinical as we normally are in converting scores but still had a commanding half time lead – 2-06 to 0-02.
We started the 2nd half well and at the end of the 3rd quarter had a significant lead – we then switched off! Weary minds and bodies gave Crosshaven renewed hope and they came at us in droves. We conceded a number of scores and things did not look good for us at one stage. However, we steadied the ship; our leaders stood up and guided us home.
A tremendous win and well deserved. We were unbeaten in the League all year and it was good to round it off with a trophy.
Sean Og Lynch accepted the Shield on behalf of the team.
Special word to Donal Herlihy, who played for Cork U16 footballers earlier in the day in Kildare; where he shot 3 goals (and another disallowed!) but made it his business to be back in plenty of time for our game – Well done Donal
Thank you once again to all our supporters for your vocal encouragement – boy was it wanted!
Again thank you to Sarah & Staff in the FBI for hosting us post match – lovely for the lads (and parents, siblings & friends) to take time out to enjoy the occasion.
That is the Football & Hurling League double put to bed and many congratulations to all concerned.
