Final score: Shamrocks 6-11, Aghinagh 6-08
Ballymaw hosted the Division 3 U16 Football League Final on 13th July last – may we start by commending the host club, Ballinora GAA, on providing top class facilities, both on and off the field.
On what was a scorching hot morning, Shamrocks won the toss and played up the hill and against a very significant breeze in the first half. We started slowly and found ourselves a goal down early on, however, we soon settled, playing some wonderful possession football and gradually took the lead.
This we held until half time: HT score – 3-04 to 2-05 in favour of Shamrocks.
We perhaps became a little complacent at the start of the 2nd half, thinking the work was done – Aghinagh came at us with full force and within 10 minutes were 2 goals ahead. Thankfully, we didn’t panic and our more senior lads took the game by the scruff of the neck and tore into the game. We got back all square in no time and then pushed for the line. It was end-to-end stuff and in a welter of excitement, we struck for the vital goal to put us ahead. The final whistle came shortly after to our great relief!
A brilliant game of football, contested by 2 very committed and honest teams. A super finish to a League where we were unbeaten throughout. Shane O’Flynn accepted the cup from Mick Lordan from Rebel Og.
Thank you to all our supporters (and there were many!) for their presence on the day. Also special thanks to Sarah & Staff in the FBI for hosting us later on.
