St Colmcilles 8-12, Shamrocks 2-13
A disappointing outcome to the championship semi final.
Obviously the goals were the decisive factor – 2 in the first half in 30 seconds and 2 in the second half in one minute. There was no way back from that.
The Shamrocks lads were very game all through and had their moments in a high scoring game but Colmcilles were just that bit too good for them and had excellent hurlers, in particular down the middle of their team with some lively forwards who gave the inside backline and goalkeeper nightmares all through the game.
Shamrocks played very well indeed for long spells and had plenty of possession but lacked that killer instinct and were reliant on just a few players for scores.
St Colmcilles led 4-4 to 1-9 at HT and stretched that to 4-7 to 1-9 in the five minutes after HT. However, Shamrocks staged a mini revival and scored 1-2 in quick succession to cut the deficit to 4-8 to 2-11 to give themselves hope with 3 points between the teams with plenty time left.
But that hope was dispatched with the visitors scoring 2 goals in a minute followed by a quick point to effictively end the game as a contest with 15 minutes to go. The rest of the game was non descript apart from Shamrocks trying to go for goals; the closest they came was a shot off the crossbar that rebounded to safety.
Thats the end of the hurling season for the U16s.
