Shamrocks 3-17, Whitechurch 2-12
This was an important win for the 16s on Monday night in what was a cold evening for August hurling.
This was a good tough game throughout. Shamrccks deserved to win, they led the whole way, primarily because they got off to a fast start playing with the aid of the breeze, 0-3 to 0-0 after 2 minutes and they went to to lead led 1-10 to 1-3 at halftime, the Whitechurch goal coming from a close in free just on Ht to give them some hope.
Shamrocks had plenty of work to do in the second half as Whitechurch came storming back into it and threatened to overtake Shamrocks at times. The closest they got was to 3 points with about 10 minutes to go but Shamrocks weathered the storm, got some vital scores and ended up 3-17 to 2-12 winners in a game that featured some great scores from both sides, most of them came from play.
This win puts Shamrocks right back in the picture in the hurling championship, the next game at home to Nemo Rangers on Mon Sept 2nd will decide if Shamrocks go through from the group
