JAFC V Courcey Rovers – 16/8

Shamrocks 0-10, Courcey Rovers  0-9

Shamrocks travelled to Belgooly to take on Coursey Rovers in round 2 of the junior football championship. This was a must win game for Shamrocks after suffering a defeat to Valley Rovers in the opening round.

It proved to be a low scoring game with both sides aware of the consequences of defeat. Courseys opened up a two point lead after fifteen minutes and this was to be the most between the two teams throughout this game. Shamrocks drew level before the break but a Coursey’s point with the last kick of the half left them leading at half time on a scoreline of 0-05 to 0-04.

The second half started well for Shamrocks and after two early points it was Shamrocks who were leading this very tight affair approaching the end. Coursey’s missed a glorious goal scoring opportunity to put daylight between the two teams but did kick over the next two points to leave them leading by a point with going into injury time.

Shamrocks rallied again and were awarded a close in free and this made it a level game. From the resulting kick out Shamrocks gained possession and were awarded a free which was brought in closer to the goal after dissent and this was pointed to leave the final scoreline 0-10 to 0-09 in favour of Shamrocks.
