Shamrocks 2-8, Douglas (2) 1-7
This was a good win for the 16s hurlers in Shanbally on Monday night as they continue their solid league campaign.
This was a hard fought win against Douglas 2. Eventhough it was the visitors second team, it was clear from early on that every one of them could hurl, especially in the forwards so the result in the end was pleasing.
It really was a slog in the conditions. This were about as far from mid July as you could get – constant driving rain, strong Easterly breeze, wet ball on a rock hard slippy surface and it was so dark, that they had to change from a white to a yellow sliotar in the first half to enable everyone to see the ball.
Shamrocks were only 2 points up at HT 1-5 to 1-3 at the break, Luke Jordan with the goal. Jordan was excellent up front and had to carry the scoring burden all night with Calum O’Neill.
However, playing against the wind in the second half, they upped their game considerably and dominated the second half. to run out deserved winners on a scoreline of 2-8 to 1-6 when scores were hard to come by.
Donal Herlihy poked home the deciding goal with 13 minutes left to open a 6 point lead and Calum Fitz in goal and the back held out with some good saves and defending.
