Kilbrittain 3-12, Shamrocks 3-11
This was really tough on the Junior Hurlers. A win and they made the semi finals of the league. They fought very hard all through but found it impossible get anything going on the free count – it was easily 4:1 in Kilbrittains favour, probably more.
Shamrocks played up the pitch and against a breeze in the first half. They led by 1-6 to 1-5 at half time, a brilliant Mark Hitchmough goal cancelling out a Kilbrittain goal at the other end.
Kilbrittain did control the third quarter and moved into a 5 point lead at one stage 3-9 to 2-7 (Shamrocks goal from Sam Foy, 2-3 from play from wing forward). But the young Shamrocks team refused to bend and fought their way back with more scores from Mark Hitchmough, Sam Foy, Darragh nScriven and an Alan Mac fre. They deserved a draw but unfortunately, and going exactly with the trend of the game, the referee awarded Kilbrittain a scorable winning free which they slotted over to win the game.
A disappointing end for Shamrocks after such a great display. Way more positives than negatives on the day but one thing stood out – the performances of the younger players coming out of and still playing minor – they were outstanding and you add in the 10 players missing to that team, they can all look forward with confidence to the championship which begins in early August.
