A Reunion was held on Saturday 2nd December between 4 and 8pm for the 1973 U21 and Minor teams. It was a great year for Hurling in the Club as our u18 (Minor) team also won the A Championship, beating Valley Rovers in the Final in July. This was followed on Sunday 9th September 1973, 50 years ago, by Shamrocks winning the u21 A Hurling Championship beating our neighbours and great rivals, Carrigaline, in the Final in Minane Bridge.
All the lads from both the u21 and Minor Panels to met first up at Shamrocks Pitch at 4pm, for a photo shoot around the Monument to the late great Ted Hanley RIP. (and a quick game of Backs and Forwards…..only joking!). They then moved down to the Shamrock Bar, where Peter Kingston provided them with refreshments.
Dan McCarthy, Ronald Sisk, Kevin Jordan, John Brennan RIP, Jimmy Cowhig, John Brady, Deccie O’Neill, Owen O’Neill, Finbarr O’Sullivan, Tom Dunne RIP, Kieran J. Barry, Dan Twomey, Joe Kelleher. In ’74 a few young brilliant hurlers for Shamrocks burst on the scene ie John Dineen, William Ashman and Eddie Hanley.
