Shamrocks GAA launched their National Schools Coaching Program for the school year 2023/2024 on Friday November 10th at the National Marine College of Ireland.
While the Schools Coaching, under our schools coach Mr Anthony Shannon, has been ongoing outdoors for the past 2 months, this was an opportunity for all the stakeholders to gather and welcome the boys and girls of both Ringaskiddy Lower Harbour NS and Shanbally NS who provide most of the players for our club.
The wonderful facilities of the National Marine College of Ireland (NMCI) in Ringaskiddy will be the venue over the winter months for the coaching from Anthony, who is originally from the Laune Rangers Club in Kerry and has many years of experience as a top level coach. We are very lucky to have him.
Shamrocks Underage and Shamrocks Ladies Gaelic Football Club are liaising with and investing in the two schools to help us build stronger ties with them and to assist in the further development and education of the children. This venture can only benefit the schools and in particular the young boys and girls who attend both the Boys and the Girls Club
Present at the launch were the centrepiece of the venture – boys and girls from classes in both schools. They were joined by the two school principals; Mr John Herlihy of Ringaskiddy Lower Harbour NS and Mr David Nolan of Shanbally NS. Also lending assistance on the floor were members of staff Gráinne Kelly (Ringaskiddy) and Niamh Gantly (Shanbally).
Representing the Club were Pa Andrews who is our Schools Liaison Officer and John Twomey who is the Treasurer of the adult club, both of whom have done a good bit of work behind the scenes to help get this off the ground.
Representing the College itself were Daniel Wall (LT CDR 2iC), Roberta O Brien (CDR Associate Head of College), Ian Heffernan (Dept of Maritime Studies), Martin O Connor (EQUANS), James O’Byrne (NMCI Training) and Paul Shanahan (Halpin Research Centre)
