Ballinhassig 2-14, Shamrocks 1-7
Shamrocks adult season came to an end on Sunday afternoon after a double scores defeat to Ballinhassig in the semi final of the football championship. Shamrocks battled hard against the odds all season long and can look back woth a certain sense of achievement that they at least got to play championship hurling well into October in both codes.
Ballinhassig were no doubt the better team here. They led 0-6 to to 0-4 at HT and stretched their lead to 1-8 to 0-4 after 7 minutes of the second half. Shamrocks did respond with a goal and a point to bring the arrears back to 3 points with 20 minutes to go; but just like the hurling when the lack of a big panel kicks in, they faded and Ballinhassig finished much the stronger and won by 2-14 to 1-7 in the end.
Best for Shamrocks were Fionn Herlihy and Cian O’Flaherty who has had a good first year at adult level.
