DÓMs U17 HC Semi Final V Lisgoold – 21/10

Lisgoold 1-18, Ó Murchús 0-13

Ó Murchús exit at the county semi final stage after Lisgoold got the better of them in Bishopstown on Saturday evening.

Lisgoold were the better team no doubt, their level of hurling was crisper and sharper and they fully deserved the win. However, Ó Murchús were dogged opposition all through and if one or two goal chances had gone in, it might have been a different outcome at the end. They certainly played their part in a very good game of hurling.

It was a draw at HT, 0-7 apiece after DÓMs had clawed back level towards the break after Lisgoold had built up a lead of 0-4 to 0-0, 0-5 to 0-1 and 0-6 to 0-3 as the half went on. A couple of half chances of goals went abegging as well.

The lights were finally turned on at the start of the second half and they shone brightest on Lisgoold as they scored 5 points on the trot immediately after the restart. This turned out to be the key period of the game was Ó Murchús were now chasing the game; it looked from a ways out that a goal was needed to have any chance of making a proper comeback but the Ó Murchús forward line was constantly running into cover in a tight Lisgoold rearguard who werent giving much away.

With 10 minutes to go it was still 5 points in it and try as they might, DÓMs just couldn’t get the goal they badly needed. In fact it was Lisgoold who finished off the game with a very late goal in the 28th minute to seal the game for them. It will take a good team to beat them in the final.

A great year for the lads on the hurling field came to an end. They and the management team can be proud of their commitment and achievements all year.

Scorers: Barry O’Mahony (0-5 from placed balls), Cian Lynch (0-4, 0-1 from a free), Ruairc Siash (0-1), Joey Middleton (0-1), Josh Bartlett (0-1), Eoghan O’Sullivan (0-1)
