U11 John Kerins Football Qualifying – 6/5

The U11s travelled to Passage on Saturday morning to play in the qualifying stages of the annual John Kerins Football Tournament. It was a festival of Gaelic Football with four clubs represented, namely Passage, Crosshaven, Ballygarvan and Shamrocks.

Shamrocks played the hosts in the first game and after a tough 24 minutes of football (12 mins a side), they came out winners by 3-2 to 1-2 after leading by the same margin at HT. They dug in deep in the second to get themselves off to a good start.

They next played Crosshaven and this was a great game with Crosshaven just about holding on for the win, the final scoreline was Crosshaven 1-3, Shamrocks 0-5. Shamrocks just couldnt score the equalising point after Crosshaven scored that all important goal just after HT up the hill into the breeze.

Shamrocks entered the final game knowing they were in with a shout of qualifying if they beat Ballygarvan. They duly did so, winning comfortably on a scoreline of Shamrocks 5-9, Ballygarvan 1-1

As a result of all this drama, Crosshaven topped the group with 6 points with Shamrocks in second on 4. Both teams qualify for the finals proper in Páirc Ui Rinn on Saturday June 24th, a day to look forward to. Naturally afterwards, the players were delighted.

Well done to all the players, the parents, the big support and the 4 coaches Darragh, Derek, Hugh and Donal
