Shamrocks 0-10, Ballinhassig 1-6
Shamrocks first home game in the league on Sunday morning resulted in a morale boosting win for the home side. They should have won by more but like all Ballinhassig teams, the visitors never give up.
The first half was a low scoring physical affair with Shamrocks leading by 0-3 to 0-2 at HT having played against the breeze. They opened up a 5 point gap midway through the second half with some excellent scores from the forwards and looked set for the win. But Ballinhassig scored a goal from a penalty and tagged on a point to leave the minimum between the teams. Shamrocks added on 2 points in injury time to leave 3 points between the teams before Ballinhassig reduced the gap once again to a single pojnt. The referee blew up soon after and Shamrocks got the 2 league points on offer.
This was a very encouraging display with some rustiness interspersed with some lovely football at times with full by the players and management.
