REACHING OUT – A CALL FOR SUPPORT & CHANGE – REFRESHING A LONG & PROUD TRADITION
Shamrocks GAA, since 1898, has been serving and celebrating, through its GAA activities, the community of the lower harbour, from Ringaskiddy, Shanbally to Monkstown and its neighbouring areas i.e., Coolmore, Currabinny, Hilltown and Raffeen Hill. It also touches on Carrigaline and Passage West. The lack of housing development and Planning in our area due to industrial development and IDA land purchase, means we have to constantly strive to survive on a lower native population than most GAA clubs.
We rely on, and encourage, our current/past players and members who live in neighbouring areas to maintain their link with their ‘Home Club’. They gladly do this through either their support or indeed sending their children to play with Shamrocks. The Club has 3 Sections; Underage, Ladies Football and Adult Male Hurling & Football. All sections are competitive and provide first class recreation in GAA games in an intimate and welcoming environment.
Currently the Executive Committee are spearheading a drive to encourage a younger age-cohort to become involved in the day-to-day running of Shamrocks GAA, including Planning for the future. We would ask anyone with a passion for GAA and more importantly Shamrocks GAA, to consider becoming a member of the Executive Committee or indeed, one of the sub-committees. All of you whom we are contacting have had involvement with Shamrocks in the past. I have no doubt that you experienced some of the best memories of your lives being part of our club. With your involvement we can continue to lead and provide that same experience for current and up and coming Shamrocks players. Lastly and equally important, the joy, pride and togetherness Shamrocks brings to the local community is priceless. To do that, we need to be successful and we have no doubt your involvement is essential to that success.
Shamrocks GAA feel it is time for a younger cohort of people to take up the reins of managing a progressive, ambitious, GAA Club, and ensure its survival into the future.
Currently and quickly, we need a new Chairperson, Vice-Chairperson, Assistant Treasurer and Development Officer.
Please consider your involvement as essential! There is a great welcome for those who join us!
