Ballinhassig 2-9, Shamrocks 2-7
This was a great game of competitive football which went the way of Blalinhassig after a very exciting second half. Ballinhassig were the better team in the first half and aided by the wind that blew with the squally showers, they led 2-4 to 0-3 at HT. Cian Lynch was the Shamrocks scorer and he was the main source of penetration in the Shamrocks attack. Sam Foy also added a point from play. The defence were under a lot of pressure in that half but battled on bravely.
The second half started with two Ballinhassig points to open up a 9 point lead but the brave Shamrocks players brought it back to a single point with 5 minutes to go after Lynch scored 2-2, David Herlihy and Harry O’Leary scored points from play. But Balinhassig steadied the ship, went a further point ahead and held on just about.
Best wishes to Kieran May who suffered a shoulder injury during the first half.
Encouraging signs from this Shamrocks team.
