Mrs. Pat Hickey R.I.P – 29/01/2021.

Her passing removes a kind and affable lady from our community;

We got the sad news of Pat Hickey’s death on Friday, one of our senior citizens in Raheens, much loved and regarded over her entire lifetime. Everybody was fond of this lovely decent and honourable lady who was born here and spent her entire life among us.

Pat was born in Shanbally and attended the old Shanbally NS along with her sister Elizabeth and brothers John R.I.P and Willie. Her father was one of Shamrocks most renown Hurlers and Leaders.

This of course was Leo Brady, All Ireland Hurling Medal winner in 1925 and later a distinguished Life President of the Club. Her late mother died when Pat was sixteen years of age, November 1958. She married Joe Hickey a skilful dual player with Shamrocks who was a member of the S.E. JHC winning team of 1958 and later a Club Secretary. The family home was in Raheens and Pat would see her sons wear the Shamrock colours just like her father and brothers. Bernard would go on to give huge service as a player and administrator and Mark wore the Shamrock, Carrigdhoun and Cork Jerseys with great pride. Pat had every reason to be very proud.

Always an integral part of our community, she was liked and regarded by neighbour and visitor alike. On Sunday’s she was a regular at 10am Mass and would be one of the last to depart, having being greeted and engaged by so many of the other Mass goers. Her endearing smile was truly her hallmark.

It is a lonesome time for us all and we particularly send our deepest and profound sympathy to her family, Teresa, Anne, Angela, Sarah, John, Paul, Bernard and Mark, her sister Elizabeth, brother Willie and we will also remember her late husband Joe, brother John and her parents at this time.  Suaimhneas Siorai Da h-Anam Dilis.
