Raonaoithe na nGael 3-5, Ó Murchús 1-8
Raonaithe na nGael took the league semi final win over Ó Murchús in Shanbally on Saturday afternoon. It was a pity that the competitions finale is being played in wet and windy October with weeks since anyone had done any training or played matches. Ó Murchús were certainly rusty and only got going towards the end of the game but ultimately ran out of time.
Raonaithe na nGael started fast and played fast ball into their dangerous ff line. They scored 2-2 inside the first 10 minutes before Ó Murchús knew what hit them. This was the winning of the game as it turned out as Ó Murchús were playing catch up for the rest of the game. They slowly got into their stride and had loads of possession but were finding scores hard to come by. A third RnG goal, of the soft variety, knocked DÓMs back again just as they were getting a grip. Start all over again. HT it was 3-4 to 0-4 for the visitors.
The story of the second half was simple – Diarmuid Ó Murchu’s could not score. They had most of the possession but found a combination of good defending form RnG and wayward shooting and wides too much to overcome. They got a late goal but time ran out and that was the end of the league season in a disappointing outcome.
