Heartiest comhghairdeas to Seán Andrews who played a big part in Corks All Ireland Minor success on Sunday September 1st in Croke Park. This was Corks first All Ireland success in this grade since 2000. Seán has been part of the Cork development squad since u14 and on Sunday in Croke Park, all the hard work paid off for him and his teammates as Cork defeated Galway by 3-20 to 3-14 after extra time in an absolute thriller of a game that at times looked beyond Cork. But they eventually came good in the end to ensure the Tommy Markham Cup returns to Cork.
Seán entered the game in the 35th minute with Cork behind by 0-9 to 0-6. Of course, it was 2 minutes later that Cork went ahead for the first time by scoring 1-2 in quick succession! Seán played all of the extra time and made a huge difference to the Cork defence, once again like all year getting on plenty of ball, showing for the overlaps when necessary and laying off intelligent and sensible ball to his teammates.
Its a proud week for Seán, for his teammates and management but also for his family, his coaches in Shamrocks (and school) and for the wider Shamrocks community, many of whom travelled to support Cork on the day. We are all so proud that one of our own could sparkle on the biggest stage of the Irish Sporting Calendar. Maith thú a Sheáin!
