Club Ciaráin 2019

The first week of July is solidly etched in the Club’s Diary as it features the annual staging of Club Ciaran, five days of hurling coaching and skills.  With eighty boys and girls registered and a full compliment of Coaches and ancillary persons the blueprint was set for a perfect week.

Guest of honour for the official opening was Mary Hegarty, accompanied by her daughter Susan. Mary’s late son Ciaran is remembered and honoured by the Club, hence the camp is called CLUB CIARÁIN. All participants, having received and fitted their ‘Club Ciaran’ shirts were off to a fine start led by The Club’s Senior Under Age Hurling Coaches, Patrick Andrews and Mr. John Herlihy N.T.

The Club was very proud to introduce three players who had represented the County this season. Chloe McGrath was with the Cork Ladies Under 14 Football Team that won All Ireland honours recently. Ellana O’Mahony was with the Cork National School’s Football team and Seán Andrews is with the Cork Minor Football team. These players have come through the under age programme and have done their Club and teams much honour, congratulations and well done to them all.
A very welcome visitor on Wednesday was our local and very popular Curate Fr. Con Cronin and he  was hugely impressed with the programme and extended much praise to all those who give of their time freely for the good of our youth.

One of the highlights of the final day was the Long Puck Competitions. The winners were as follows;   GIRLS – 1.  Ellana O’Mahony,  2.  Rebecca Collins,  3.  Ellen Mallon.    BOYS – 1.  Cian Lynch,  2.  Evan Browne-Wilson,   3. David Herlihy.

Special thanks to Deirdre and her helpers in the kitchen, they did a great job too.

Another year and another successful week for CLUB CIARÁIN – Mol an Óige!
