Shamrocks 3-14, Ballinhassig 2-12
Shamrocks started their league campaign with a 5 point win over Ballinhassig on Monday night in Shanbally. This was a deserved win on the night and the Shamrocks players played some excellent hurling at times to rack up a pretty decent 3-14 on the scoreboard.
Ballinhassig had 1-1 on the scoreboard literally within the first minute and then followed up with a few more points over the next 10 minutes. However, Shamrocks grew into the game and started to get their own scores at the other end. They tagged on their first few points before a goal got them right back into it. At halftime, Shamrocks led 1-9 to 2-5.
Again, the second half was close up until Shamrocks scored a vital goal mid way through. This gave them a 6 point cushion; Ballinhassig brought it back to 2 points but another Shamrocks goal and a few lovely points at the other end gave them the deserved victory.
