Geraldine’s Kitchen

Recently the Shamrock Underage Club organised their annual charity walk and coupled with event was an opportunity to honour the late Geraldine Twomey, a lady who had done our Club some great service over the years.

A large gathering was present to witness the tribute which the Club had prepared for Geraldine.

She did so much work in the area of fund-raising and of course she was ever present in the Club’s kitchen for all events. Whether it was the Clubs Saturday morning under age Academy or games and training sessions Geraldine’s hospitality always prevailed. The kettle was always on and Members, Parents and Visitors were assured of a hot cup and a bite to eat. Her Kitchen always had a happy and pleasant environment. But of course, the children too were sure to give her a call, as Geraldine kept a well stocked jar of lollipops under the counter. Their eyes lit up when the jar was removed from seclusion.

Geraldine’s untimely passing almost twelve months ago left us all devastated, but she left a rich legacy and our Club is in a better place because of Geraldine’s generosity of time and commitment.

In a tribute to her, the Club decided to name the refurbished kitchen after her. Going forward it will be known as “Geraldine’s Kitchen”, Surely a place filled with happy memories and optimism going into the future.

Club Executive Chairman, Mr. Pat McCarthy made the formal announcement to the large gathering and he paid a glowing tribute to an indispensable lady who in her time made the Club a better place. Joining the gathering too was Parish Priest Rev. Fr. Sean O’Sullivan, who was present to endorse and give his blessing to the noble gesture.

It was a very moving and special occasion for her husband John and family and large circle of relatives and friends. Joining John was son Roy, daughter Aileen, Sister Margaret and brother Craig, nephews Owen, Adam and Dayne along with nieces Chelsea and Elana.

A huge cheer resounded around the Clubhouse when the door of Geraldine’s Kitchen was swung open only to find the tables laden with food and goodies for the walkers on their return. That is the way Geraldine would have wanted it.
