St Vincents 5-9, Shamrocks 3-9
Yet another close defeat for our 16s, this time in the league semi final in wet Knocknaheeny on Saturday afternoon last. This was the 6th defeat in a row to this Vincents team in both codes stretching back to u14 and this was a game that could have been won. However, the pattern was similar to the championship defeat – play outstanding up until the 50th minute when the opposition take over and score a couple of quick goals to take the stuffing out of a gallant Shamrocks team.
Shamrocks started brightly and led 1-4 to 0-1 early on but Vincents came back into it and the game was level at HT, 2-4 apiece. St Vincents appeared to be in command after HT as they pushed on but they had a player dismissed with 157minutes to go. Shamrocks slowly got on top and went 4 points ahead with 9 minutes to go but Vincents upped a gear and the game was won in a 60 second spell when they hit 2 quick goals. The wind was gone from Shamrocks sails and Vincents advanced to the final.
Thanks to all the footballers for a great year of progress; we hope to see all u16 players (all bar 2) back at that level in February 2019.
