Raonaithe na nGael 4-14, Shamrocks 4-11
What a great game of football and unfortunately for Shamrocks, they came out on the wrong side of it in Whitescross on Wednesday evening. The players from both sides served up a cracker with the lead changing hands on many occasions before the referee eventually blew it up in near darkness.
Shamrocks played against the strong wind and hill in the first half and went in a point down at HT, 2-6 to 2-5. That was a healthy position to be in considering the elements. Tim Sheehan and Cian O’Flaherty scored the Shamrocks goals in that half while Shane Darcy was on song with 3 points from play. The backs and midfield worked hard to set up the forwards for scoring opportunities.
The second half was tit for tat all through. Raonaithe na nGael scored an early point and a goal to go further ahead but Shamrocks kept working hard and goals from Mark Sisk and another one from the ever dangerous O’Flaherty had Shamrocks leading by 3 points with 13 minutes left. However, Raonaithe na nGael had a good 10 minute spell and scored 1-4 and suddenly they led by 5 points with 3 minutes left. Shamrocks tried everything to reduce the gap but it wasnt to be. The Shamrocks lads gave it everything on the night and cannot be faulted for one second for their effort and attitude.
