Pairc Ui Rinn was the venue for what turned out to be a great day for our U11 squad last Saturday. Lifting the John Kerins shield after two magnificent displays of football.
Shamrocks first played Whitechurch in the semi final and came out convincing winners with a host of expertly taken goals. They then went on to tackle a hotly favoured Crosshaven team who had beaten Shamrock sin the qualifiers. The scene was set, the supporters shouting from the stand as the team followed the band, and the roar of “up Shamrocks” as Amhrán na bhFiann came to a close.
The early minutes of the first half were a tense affair as both teams traded points but a great Shamrocks goal rocked the Crosshaven men and took some wind from their sails.Shamrocks dug deep and with pure grit, determination, heart and spirit went on to overcome the men in black and red with a scoreline of 3-5 to 0-5.
As soon as the whistle sounded the well deserved celebrations began. It was great to see these young Hero’s get their medals and carry the shield down trough both villages with great excitement all round. Congratulations and we’ll done to all involved but especially to all the members of this great team who proved that hard work and determination will always win out.
