U14 FL V Tracton – 10/3

Shamrocks 3-8  Tracton 3-1

First Football league fixture of the season was played in Shanbally this afternoon. The game was played in challenging conditions with the morning rain giving way to a stiff breeze down the field. Shamrocks decided to play against the elements in the first half. After a sluggish first quarter, Shamrocks settle to play some fine football and were unlucky not to have built up  a more commanding lead by half-time. Half-time score 3-2 to 1-1 in favour of Shamrocks.

They started the second half brightly and added some very well worked and executed scores. Fatigue and perhaps a little over-confidence crept into their play which allowed our opponents to nibble into our lead. To be fair, Shamrocks were never in trouble as some stout defending held Tracton at bay. The management of Seamus O’Flynn and Joseph O’Keeffe were more than delighted to have begun with a win and look forward to their next fixture on 31/03 v Aghinagh.
Special word of thanks to Sam & Kieran, our 2 subs today who waited patiently to come on in the second half – not a grumble from them despite the cold!!

Thanks to parents, siblings and friends for their support. Thank you to Mairead for her work behind the scenes.
