U21 HC V Ballygaran – 9/9

Ballygarvan 3-18, Shamrocks 3-11

Shamrocks and Ballygarvan played out a high scoring game in Belgooly on Saturday afternoon. Ballygarvan was the better team no doubt all through and fully deserved their victory. Twice in the contest they enjoyed 10 point leads but credit to the outmatched Shamrocks lads who never gave up and at one point had the lead down to 4 points in the second half but couldnt push on to get closer. Shamrocks preperation had been interrupted by Gaelic Football over the past few months.

Ballygarvan were way more able to get scores and went into a 1-5 to 0-1 lead early on and their hurling was crisper and faster. Shamrocks were relying on a few individuals to keep them in the game. Andrew O’Grady drilled home a 30 yard free before HT to give Shamrocks hope at the break, 1-10 to 1-3.

Shamrocks played their best hurling in the first 15 minutes after the break and reqistered some scres, mainly through the stick of O’Grady from frees. However, the badly needed goal never arrived and once Ballygarvan got their second goal with 12 minutes left, teh game was as good as over. They soon followed up with another and led 3-15 to 1-10. Shamrocks put some gloss on the scorline with 2 late consolation goals.
