U14 FL Final V Clonakilty B – 8/8

Shamrocks 7-9, Clonakilty B 2-5

Shamrocks scored an emphatic win over their West Cork opponents in Passage GAA last Tuesday evening. A huge downpour greeted both teams before the throw-in which made for tricky handling initially. Shamrocks settled early and went 2 goals to no score up after 2 minutes. They went on to dominate the first half and only for some excellent defending by Clon, they would have racked up some score. As it stood, Shamrocks led by 5-5 to 1-2 at the break.

We tired a little after the break which was understandable due to the massive effort in the first half. A series of substitutions probably disrupted our rhythm but all of the panel deserved to share in this well earned victory. Shamrocks won all our league games comfortably and were worthy champions. Great scenes followed the final whistle and our supporters came on to the pitch to congratulate the lads.

Simon O’Brien, representing the West Board, presented our winning captain, the excellent Harry Andrews, with the victory shield. This win is a massive boost to the underage club and hopefully we can replicate this success at the other age levels before the year is out. Well done to all of the lads, not forgetting the lads away, Tim, Cian & Philip, and also to the mentors/ coaches Patrick, Jed & Dick. Thanks also to Seamus and Peter who took the team in their holiday absence. Thank you to our great support and also to John Twomey (Shanbally) for photographing the event.
