U14 HL V St Patricks – 18/5

Shamrocks 6-4, St Patricks 3-4

Shamrocks made the long trip to Skibbereen count with a deserved win over St Patricks, an amalgamation of 4 clubs from that region. Shamrocks had 14 players togged and this really is close to our maximum number of hurlers at this age group due to various reasons and it has put the panel under serious strain. But we drive on with what we have.

Shamrocks played with the aid of the wind in the first half and took some time to settle in after the long trip. Adam McSweeney bagged two goals and Harry Andrews scored a few 65’s. St Patricks were proving to be dogged opponents and stayed in touch with 2-1 themselves. HT score 2-2 to 2-1.

Some stern but encougraging words were spoken at halftime along with one or two positional switches and they seemed to rise the lads from their sleep. Shamrocks scored 3 quick goals inside 10 minutes of the restart and they were in control until the end. At one point a 12 point gap opened up – it was a much improved second half display.

Well done to all the players, parents and the two mentors for making our 3rd long trip in a row to West Cork – only one more to go in May! Hurling training on Saturday morning at 11.15am.
