Shamrocks 6-13, Ibane Gales 1-7
The lads made the long trip to Timoleague to play Ibane Gaels after their Féile exploits. This was their second league game of the season and they found the going tough in the first half in the Argideen Rangers pitch. There was a biting gale force wind at times blowing right into the Shamrocks goal and working the ball up the pitch into the wind was a challenge. Ibane used the wind to great effect inside the first 15 minutes and went ahead 1-6 to 0-1. Shamrocks found themselves in a bit of bother at this point but one or two positional switches made a difference and the lads settled into the game and got a foothold on things on the run up to halftime. A goal followed by a few points left the halftime score 1-7 to 1-3 in favour of the home team; a much more manageble deficit for Shamrocks
Shamrocks played with the strong wind in the second half and got down to business on the scoreboard. Once they scored a quickfire 2-2 to go ahead after 10 minutes of the half, there was only going to be one winner; eventhough Ibane Gaels never gave up. All the forwards got on the scoresheet before the referee blew the fulltime whistle. The second half was much better from the lads, a great team effort overall and the attitude was spot on throughout – they took a few belts along the way but just got up and got on with things.
Thanks to all the players, mentors, supporters and parents who made the long trip to Timoleague. It was also great to see one of our injured players Adam McSweeney making the trip with his mother to support the lads – this shows great team spirit – thanks Adam. We now switch to hurling over the next few weeks with a return trip to Timoleague next week (possibly Friday, to be confirmed) to play the home side.
