U10 HL V Sliabh Rua – 6/5

Shamrocks 5-5, Sliabh Rua 2-3

The Shamrocks under 10 hurlers traveled to Belgooly on Saturday the 6th of May to play Sliabh Rua in our third hurling match of the season in the under 10 league. With two good wins behind us already against Mayfield and Passage, we were hoping to make it 3 wins from 3 against the combined Riverstick/Belgooly lads.

We had already beaten Sliabh Rua in the football league last month and we expected the hurling to be a tougher test for our boys as the home team would be out to even things up. The game started with great pace and the Shamrocks quickly set down a marker with some early scores. The work rate from our lads was outstanding, if we lost the ball we fought hard to get it back and our displays of passing and shooting were fantastic. Mid way through the first half we were joined by four of the under 8 team that had just competed in their own Blitz in Bishopstown. Inspired by what was going on out on the field you could see the young lads were bursting to get out and have a go themselves. Half time arrived with Shamrocks well ahead 4-4 to 0-1.

The second half started with the expected fight back from the home team, they came out fired up and quickly had a goal and a couple of pointed frees to their credit. When a second goal was scored it looked like the momentum had swung to Sliabh Rua and the game was getting exciting. Then the Shamrock lads stood up to be counted and some mighty blocking and clearing the ball out of defense was witnessed. The next score was vital and it went to the Shamrocks with a well taken goal that rocked the home side. A 65 soon followed for our lads and that was to be it on the score board. Final score Shamrocks 5-5 to Sliabh Rua 2-3 in what was a very entertaining match.

Thanks to all the parents who traveled in support of the lads on the day,we’ll hopefully have many more good days with this team. Many thanks to Liam Lynch for his assistance on the line also.
