Shamrocks 4-3, Castlelyons 4-2
Shamrocks had a storming start to this game and had 4 goals scored by the 10th minute. We were playing against a slight breeze and drove the ball into the full forward line at every opportunity.
We won a lot of breaking ball and took full advantage of this. However, we took our foot off the accelerator once we had our goals scored and the locals tore into the game. By half-time, the gap was down to 1 point 4-0 to 3-2.
We took the opportunity at half-time to take stock and to try and re-energise the lads. In fairness, we started the second half well and by mid way had added 3 points to our half-time score.
However, from there to the end was all Castlelyons and our backs supported by our midfield and half forwards, defended gallantly. We conceded a goal near the end to reduce the margin to 1 point and despite a number of close calls, we held out for a hard earned victory. We were missing a number of our regulars today but in fairness a number of younger lads stepped up and played their hearts out. Not a stand out performance but a vital win nonetheless and we remain unbeaten after 3 games. Our next Hurling game is against Lisgoold this coming Friday and texts will follow with suitable information. Thank you to the parents and friends who travelled this morning.
This game was deferred from last Wednesday evening to accommodate Shamrocks – we are grateful to Castlelyons for facilitating us.
