Shamrocks 5-15, Tracton 1-3
Shamrocks travelled to Minane Bridge Saturday afternoon to fulfill our first league fixture of the season. Shamrocks ran out comfortable winners after a commanding display.
We won the toss and played against a significant breeze in the first half. We played sensibly into the wind with short hand and foot passes being the order of the day.
Our older lads led by example and despite a number of poor misses early on, we went on to score a respectable 2-5 against the wind. Half-time score – 2-5 to 0-3.
Shamrocks took over completely in the second half; scores came thick and fast. We had the luxury of withdrawing a number of our older players, allowing the younger ones to gain valuable experience.
The management were greatly encouraged by the performances of all the players, particularly those still eligible for U10 team. Scores were well spread throughout the team which was impressive.
We will meet more difficult opponents during the year but that is not to take anything away from Tracton who fielded a very young team themselves. We have a gap of over 5 weeks to our next game and we will try and arrange a game or two in the meantime.
Thank you to grandparents, parents, siblings and friend who travelled in big numbers – it felt like a home fixture!
