On the 2nd of August on what was a fine evening for football our under 10’s traveled to Minane Bridge to play a strong Tracton team in the U10 league. Both clubs have big numbers at this age bracket (we had 17 togged out) and the sides lined out 11 a side rather than the usual 9 a side.
Shamrocks took the lead early with a couple of well taken goals and were winning good ball in the middle of the field and full forward line. Tracton fought back and put some scores on the board and when half time came there was only a goal between the sides. However the second half was all Shamrocks and the lads got on top in every position. Some great goal scoring from the lads ensured the game was over as a contest well before the final whistle was blown.
It was great to see some of our lads get their first score for the club and you can be sure that this will boost their confidence for future matches. This is our under 10’s third win on the trot and with matches to come against Kinsale(Hurling) and Sliabh Rua (football) we hope this run continues. We’re very lucky to have such superb players in our club at this age bracket and you can see that the new league format and regular matches has brought them all on. A big thanks to the parents and grandparents who came out in force again to support our boys. Thanks also to Sean Kidney and Cormac Scriven who stepped in to help mentor the lads.
