Tracton 3-8, Shamrocks 1-9
Shamrocks and Tracton met in the champinship semi final on Tuesday night and for the second year in a row, Shamrocks exited the championship at the Crosshaven venue. Shamrocks just didnt do enough on the night to earn the win and Tracton deserved to go through as they just about had a little bit more potency in the forward line and struck for 3 goals at important times.
Shamrocks opened with a point playing with the srtrong breeze but it was Tractons forwards who did more damage at the other end, scoring two goals after slicing open the Shamrocks defence on both occasions. Shamrocks were chasing the game thereafter but a lot of their play either broke down through mishandling or shots that were driven wide. The tally mounted in the first half but Shamrocks stayed in touch courtesy of a few frees and 2 nice scores from play. The halftime score was Tracton 2-3, Shamrocks 0-6 with a big half needed to turn things around.
Shamrocks tried very hard in the second half. They brought the defecit back to one point after HT with two fine points but once again, Tracton opened up the Shamrocks D and buried goal number 3 to open up a 4 point gap. Reset and start again. Shamrocks upped it once again and midway through the second half, they were rewarded with a penalty which was dispatched to the Tracton net to make it 3-4 to 1-8. Shamrocks really needed a goal from some other avenue but the Tracton backs were having none of it. Both teams swopped points before the end but Tracton were comfortable enough to see it out and earn a place in the final.
