Shamrocks 2-4, Lisgoold 2-1
Shamrocks secured their first win of the season at this grade. It was a fully deserved victory in very poor weather conditions.
We fielded a number of younger players and the experience will stand them in good stead.
We had a lot of the play in the first half but unfortunately could not translate that into scores.
We conceded 2 goals but other than that we were quite comfortable at the back.
Our midfield and forwards were breaking even with their opponents but just couldn’t make the breakthrough for scores.
Half time score Lisgoold 2-0 Shamrocks 0-1.
Encouraging words were spoken at half time and the lads themselves motivated each other to go for it in the second half.
We conceded an early point (which was to be Lisgoold’s last score) but took over for the rest of the game.
We launched attack after attack and eventually got through for a couple of goals.
We added a few points and on a drier day might have run riot.
In any event, a great win and the confidence gained from this victory will hopefully drive us on for the rest of the season.
A number of lads played in new positions and these worked very well.
We have another Hurling League game v Crosshaven next Wednesday and more experimentation is expected!!
We can see improvement with every game and the plan is to train and play as much as we can.
Thank you to all our supporters who got absolutely soaked but stayed with us to the bitter end.
