U12 HL v Crosshaven – 25/5

Shamrocks 3-9, Crosshaven 2-1

Shamrocks travelled to Crosshaven tonight buoyed by their win last Friday night v Lisgoold.

We were missing two of our regulars, Aidan Brady & Dara McCormack but welcomed back Fionn Herlihy following his hand injury. We also called on three of our younger players, Cian Lynch, Euan Clarke & Barry O’Mahony, to bolster our squad.

It would be fair to say that we dominated this game from start to finish in what was our best Hurling display of the year. In addition to the three younger players, we also had a further four u10 players on the team but you would not have thought it.

As predicted following the Lisgoold match, further positional changes were made for this game. Our goalkeeper, Sam Foy, was almost redundant but when called on was well up to the mark –  puck outs were excellent. The full back line of Aaron and Eoin were untested really but dealt efficiently with the ball that came their way.

The half back line is gathering legendary status with Ferdia, Michael & Robert providing a very robust defence. John ploughs a lone furrow in midfield and is commended for the work rate he gets through in every game. Kieran, Josh and Derry made up our very effective half forward line. Josh scored a tremendous opening goal which settled us down.

Cathal & Fionn were in the inside line and were lively all night; Cathal scoring his very first u12 goal – well done! We kept rolling on and off the subs all through and this worked very well for us.This win puts us back into the league and if we continue to improve we may surprise a number of teams later in the summer.
A big shout out to the grandparents, parents, siblings and friends who again turned out in big numbers – we out-supported the home team yet again! Seriously, this means an awful lot to the lads and also makes our job on the sideline that little bit easier – thank you!

We’re back to Football next Thursday, 2nd June, when we play Grenagh away in a crucial fixture – texts with details will follow in due course.

Panel – Sam Foy, Aaron Clarke, Eoin O’Flynn, Ferdia Hayes, Michael Foy, Robert Barrett, John Coleman, Josh Bartlett, Derry Howard, Kieran May, Cathal O’Donovan, Fionn Herlihy, Barry O’Mahony, Euan Clarke & Cian Lynch.
