St Vincents 5-5, Shamrocks 0-6
St Vincents handily won the first hurling league game of the year in Shanbally on Thursday night. Shamrocks preparations for the game were disrupted for various reasons and one could see that they were slow to get to the pace of the game, especially in the first half when St Vincents did most of their damage. Shamrocks played with the strong breeze in the first half but it was Vincents who hurled the better and seemed to control matters. They threatened scores way more than Shamrocks and went in ahead at HT leading 3-3 to 0-4. The Shamrocks scores came from Seán and Harry Andrews.
Shamrocks were more competitive in the second half without ever threatening to make a comeback. St Vincents scored 2 goals straight after after HT to put the game to bed. Shamrocks kept at it and never gave up. One or two goalscoring chance went narrowly wide before Harry Andrews scored 2 points late on.
Shamrocks play a challenge game against Donoughmore on Sunday at the pitch, 3pm.
