U14 FL V St Catherines – 21/4

Shamrocks 4-14, St Catherines 3-7

The u14 footballers made the long trip to Ballynoe on Thursday night and made it count with a great second half display. This was a good game between 2 good teams and Shamrocks took a while to get into the game after St Catherines went 1-2 ahead early on. Shamrocks responded with Cian O’Flaherty and Harry Andrews goals and a few points from Seán Andrews and Harry Andrews. Shamrocks were under pressure in the backs all through and were constantly making adjustments to stymie the dangerous St Catherines forwards. Daniel O’Brien in the Shamrocks goal made some smart saves as well at times. Shamrocks led 2-4 to 1-5 at HT with it all to play for in the second half.

Shamrocks dominated the early part of the second half and built up a 6 point lead 10 minutes in. However, St Catherines refused to give up and dominated the next 7 minutes to actually go back into the lead with 15 minutes left, 3-7 to 3-6. This is when some astute positional switches kicked in and the Shamrocks players took over, scoring a flurry of points and a goal from sub Eoin O’Flynn to seal the win. Mark Sisk, Tim Sheehan and the two Andrews were the points scorers.

The one disappointing thing from the night was the (accidental) hand injury suffered by the captain Dylan Gregson which necessitated his removal from the game early on. Dylan is a cast after the incident and the club wishes him a full and speedy recovery.
