Shamrocks 2-8, Fr O’Neills 1-5
The u14 footbalelrs got their second win a in a row on Thursday evening with a hard fought win over the visitors from East Cork. Once again, for the second week in a row, the Shamrocks team faced into their captain being taken to hospital after only 5 minutes resulting in a total rejig of the team. And faced by a much bigger and older team playing with the strong wind, the Shamrocks players dug deep in this one, especially in the first half when playing up the hill. Before Seán Andrews went off injured, he scored Shamrocks first goal from a well struck penalty and Shamrocks led 1-2 to 0-2. The backs were playing brilliant stuff when facing the elements, snuffing out many attacks. Shamrocks bundled home another goal but Fr O’Neills finished the half with a goal of their own. At HT, Shamrocks led 2-2 to 1-2.
Shamrocks scored 0-3 early in th second half, all from play and this gave them the cushion to hang on for the rest of the macth. All 19 players who togged out played a part (13 a side) and the mentors were delighetd with the win after but more importantly the attitude of the players. Attention switches to hurling for the next 3 weeks now.
The club wishes Seán Andrews all the best with his injury, suffered early on in the game. It appeared to be a displcated finger and he was removed to hospital. All the best Sean and we hope to see you back playing very soon.
