Shamrocks 3-13, Castlelyons 4-2
Our U16 footballers had a great win last Sunday in Castlelyons in the second round of the U16 football league. Both teams were evenly matched through out this contest and Shamrocks only pulled clear in
injury time when they scored two very late goals.
Shamrocks started well and had the better of the earlier exchanges but was finding it difficult to get scores on the board. Castlelyons got two qick goals before the interval leaving us trailing at half time on a score line of 2-01 to 0-05. Words of encouragment were given to the players and sure enough when the game resumed they dominated all over the pitch. Some lovely points were scored from play. We were five points to the good when Castlelyons were awarded a late penalty which they converted to leave just two points in it. A great interception by Evan Seymour in goal for Shamrocks resulted in play switching to the other end and after a great move, Seán Andrews found the back of the net to leave Shamrocks with breathing space again. Shane Downey pounced on a poor clearance from the kick out and he also scored a goal to leave Shamrocks winning by eight points in the end. Special word of praise must go to Tim Hayes and Jed O’ Flaherty who led the side line with these lads.
