JAFL V Courcey Rovers – 21/2

Shamrocks 5-11, Courcey Rovers 0-5

Shamrocks got their league campaign off to a winning start with this victory over a clearly weakened Courcey Rovers team. The pattern of the game was very similar to the league game played almost 12 months back and will resemble nothing like the championship matches that both will play later on in the year. Shamrocks were always in control of the game and led 2-6 to 0-1 at halftime; with a nice spread of scorers including Brian Sweeney and Seanán Collins alongside points from new captain Barry Mulqueen, Mark Hitchmough, David Andrews and Andrew O’Grady.

Courcey Rovers got a couple of early points in the second half but Shamrocks got on top again and registered more scores from Sweeney, Collins and Philip Brady (goals) and further points from Brady, Sweeney and Mickey Prout. Much tougher tests lie ahead for sure. Training continues this week with a possibility of a challenge match next weekend.
