East MCFL Final V Lee Gaels – 22/11

Shamrocks 5-10, Lee Gaels 0-9

Shamrocks are the league champions for 2015 after this comfortable win over Lee Gaels in Waterfall on Sunday afternoon. This Lee Gaels team had beaten Shamrocks earlier on in the league stages by six points and had beaten them two years ago in the championship at u16 so the result is pleasing from a Shamrocks point of view. As the scoreline suggests, Shamrocks were able to get goals when it counted most and the game was over as a contest long before the finish.

Shamrocks started brightly and were not to relinquish their early lead for the whole match. They opened up a 1-3 to 0-0 lead inside the first 10 minutes and drove on from there. Gaels were quite unlucky with a couple of chance they had themselves for goals, flashing 2 wides and hitting the post and the crossbar in the first half. Shamrocks capitalised on this and went in ahead 2-8 to 0-3 ahead at HT, a comfortable lead in the conditions.

Shamrocks dominated the next 15 minutes and put the game beyond Lee Gaels, who finished strong but couldn’t break down the Shamrocks rearguard for the all important goals. Shamrocks ran out deserving winners in the end. The players and management have put in a big effort this year between the hurling and the football and it was nice to finally have some silverware to show for it. They still have to play Béal Átha’n Ghaorthaidh in the Co League Final at a date not yet determined.
