Clondrohid 4-11, Shamrocks 2-8
The Shamrocks season at u14, which promised so much earlier in the year, ended in another semi final defeat, this time to Clondrohid who made the trip to Shanbally on Sunday afternoon. Shamrocks had beaten Clondrohid in the first round of the championship by 4 points and this was a nice bit of revenge for them. They were fired up, they had that bit more football, they were match fit and they carved open Shamrocks especially in the second half, in which they dominated after making some astute switches.
For Shamrocks, its a disappointing end to the year – a lost final and two lost semi finals. They played some great football all year but ended up with nothing to show for their efforts and their lack of football showed today. Still, they have found some new players this year and can look forward with confidence to the next few years.
Shamrocks played their best football in the first half and at one point opened up a 7 point margin, 2-6 to 1-2. Seán Browne and Seán Andrews scored the Shamrocks goals and Dylan O’Flaherty and Andrews did most of the point scoring. At this point things were looking good, but Clondrohid scored the next 1-5 without reply either side of HT and they controlled matters until the end, adding on a few more goals and points. Shamrocks just could not break down the Clondrohid defence for the few goals they needed.
Thanks to the players, the management team of Jed and Tim and to the parents for their efforts this year.
