U16 FL V Ballinora – 24/8

Shamrocks 6-15, Ballinora 3-5

Shamrocks played a gallant Ballinora side in the U16 East board football league in Shanbally last night. After the disappointment of losing in the championship the week before to Whitescross, it was a great credit to the players that they raised their game to the required level to succeed at this level.

Both sides exchanged some early points and then Stephen Fox took over and scored two quick fire goals to give us a cushion approaching half time. Shane Downey and Cillian Hayes were dominating the half forward line while Josh Linehan along with Dylan O Flaherty were also a thorn in the Ballinora side. Ruairí Mehigan got the better of the midfield battle and he was aided by the excellent Daniel O Mahony who is improving with every game he plays.

The young half back line of Sean Andrews and Jody Sisk contested every ball that came their way and indeed set up many attacking passage of play down both wings. The full back line of Cathal Murphy and Evan Seymour did their job with little fuse. Shane Flavin in goal again proved what a vital asset he is to this team. His saves and distribution were a joy to all that was present. The young subs of Cillian O Mahony, Sam Geary and Luke O Driscoll all got valuable playing time.

We finished up comfortable winners but the pleasing aspect of this was the attitude, desire and most of all the performance after last weeks tamely exit from the championship.
