U14 CFC Final V Crosshaven – 16/6

Crosshaven 4-2, Shamrocks 1-10

The first final of the 2015 season was played in Passage between ourselves and Crosshaven in the U14 football East Board Championship. When both teams met in the league Shamrocks had a comprehensive victory. The final proved to be a different set up altogether. This was a totally different Crosshaven team. They were much bigger and stronger than the earlier one that we met. They started the final well on top and were leading on a scoreline of 3-01 to 1-00 after ten minutes. A few positional switches before the interval settled us down and we scored 4 points without reply to leave us losing by a goal at half time.

Great words of advice was given to the team and after some excellent displays from all our lads we found ourselves in front by 3 points with the full time whistle fast appraoching. The score at this stage was 1-10 to 3-01. Crosshaven threw all their big lads forward for the last few minutes and scored 1-01 in the very last minute to leave them leading by a point. The referee blew the full time whistle without allowing any injury time whatsoever despite the game being stopped on at least four occasions because of injuries. Crosshaven emerged victorious by the smallest of margins.

It was heartbreak for the players, mentors and the large number of Shamrock supporters. The mentors of Jed O’Flaherty, Tim Hayes and John Jordan deserve great credit for their effort, time and commitment with this team. Team – Cian O Flaherty, Jody Sisk, Evan Seymour, Mark Sisk, Seán Browne, Harry Andrews, Dylan O Flaherty, Seán Andrews, Andrew Egan, Ronan Connolly, Luke O’ Driscoll, Sam Geary. Subs: Conor Hourihan, Robert Van Pelt, Dylan Gregson, Adam Maye, Adam McSweeney.
