Shamrocks 3-10, Tracton 2-9
Shamrocks came from behind to defeat Tracton in the league on Thursday evening in Minane Bridge.
Tracton were the better team in the first half and led 0-8 to 0-5 at Ht. Shamrocks had started with a few points from Dylan O’Flaherty, Seán Andrews and Ronan Connolly before Tractons greater physical strength took over and they started to tag on the points. They moved into a 0-8 to 0-3 lead before Shamrocks recovered coming up to half time with 2 important points.
Shamrocks were in a right battle and things got even tougher straight away after HT when Tracton scored a great goal from their ever dangerous half forward. They now led 1-8 to 0-5. Shamrocks never panicked however and responded almost immediately with a great individual goal from Billy Hughes. This seemed to lift the lads and they took over and started to tag on the points. A Seán Andrews free put them in front with 10 minutes to go and a further two goals from Billy Hughes to complete his hatrick sealed the win, before Tracton scored a late goal themselves.
Overall, a great comeback with lots of team spirit shown. The players believed in themselves when the chips were down and got their reward. All players played their part including the 4 subs when introduced. Their next game is at home to Kiltha Óg (Castlemartyr and Dungourney) next Wednesday night.
