Shamrocks 4-7, Carraigtwohill 3-7
Shamrocks and Carrigtwohill played out a great game of football in Carrigtwohill on Wednesday evening before Shamrocks just about recorded the win after a great fightback in towards the end of the game.
Carrigtwohill played down the hill with the aid of the wind in the first half and the Shamrocks lads found things difficult. They were defending well with Carrigtwohill possessing some good players, especially around the middle and they put the lads under serious pressure. Carrig opened up a 1-6 to 0-2 lead coming up to half time before Shamrocks were awarded 2 penalties. Both penalties were expertly put away by Cian O’Flaherty. After being outplayed for most of the half, the Shamrocks lads went in behind only losing by 1-6 to 2-2 and they could count themselves lucky as they didn’t play up to scratch.
Carrigtwohill started the second half by scoring a quick goal and again, they looked likely winners. But some of the Shamrocks players really stepped up to the plate and the move of Eoin O’Flynn to full forward worked as he was dangerous every time the ball was moved into him. Shane Darcy kicked a few points, sub Aaron Clarke kicked another vital score before O’Flynn scored a quickfire 2-1 from play to turn things around. Shamrocks had to withstand a great Carrigtwohill effort in the closing stages but they just held on to record their forth win in a row at this grade.
Well done to all the players, all 20 of them, who made the trip along with a large travelling support. That was 2 long away trips away for them in a row and the club appreciates their support and enthusiasm.
Shamrocks will switch to hurling next week and their next game is away to Kinsale on Saturday May 23rd at 2pm.
