John Kerins Qualifying – 24/5

Shamrocks took part in the annual John Kerins u11 Football Tournament on Sunday in Passage West’s GAA grounds. Shamrocks had to enter the qualifiers this year due to the high number of participating teams.

Shamrocks had 12 players available for selection on this occasion, for what was an 11-a-side competition featuring 3 games of 12 minutes a side in each game.  Unfortunately, Shamrocks didn’t qualify on this occasion, losing to Crosshaven and Ballygarvan (both srong) before finishing on a winning note by beating the host club Passage.

The lads were outstanding all day, they played over 70 minutes of football and they never gave up. What was most pleasing was that there was scope to experiment a little bit with the players and the mentors learned a lot over the few hours. Our thanks to the players, the parents and supporters and to the three coaches on the day Seamus O’Flynn, John Twomey (Ringaskiddy) and Pa Andrews. Thanks also to the John Kerins Tournament Organising Committee (An Garda Síochána), to Passage GAA and to our opponents and referees.

Panel: F. Hayes, A. Brady, M. Foy, S. O’Flynn, J. Bartlett, J. O’Keeffe, F. Herlihy, E. Clarke. Front: J. O’Leary, A. Clarke, D. Howard, D. McCormick, H. O’Leary.
