U16 HC Semi Final V Dripsey – 4/8

Shamrocks 2-14, Dripsey 1-6.

We played Dripsey in the U16 hurling championship semi final in Ballygarvan on Bank Holiday Monday in ideal conditions. Both teams started with high hopes of making the final of this competition.

We started brightly and soon had a few points on the board from the reliable source of David Andrews and Andrew O Grady. David Andrews then settled the early nerves as he scored the games first goal. U14 player Cillian Hayes chipped in with two excellent points in succession. We scored some fine long distance points; Dripsey themselves scored some points from frees and in fairness to them could have had more than their half time total of 4 points if they were more accurate in front of goal. The half time score was 1-8 to 0-4 in our favour.

We started the second half in good shape and soon found our scoring range again with some great points from both play and placed balls. Then the ever improving Mathew Field finished an excellent move to the back of the net to finish the game as a contest. We scored some more points from Mark Hitchmough, David Andrews and Andrew O Grady. Dripsey to their credit kept going to the end and scored 1-02 without reply. We now move on to the final on Saturday week. The training, effort and commitment of these lads along with their minor colleagues is now showing it’s true rewards.
